The Downtown Improvement District is a non-profit 501c3 organization that began in 1999.
The Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District began in 1999 as the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority, created by downtown property owners and the City to promote a positive and vibrant downtown through administering clean, safe and beautiful services. In the early 2000’s the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District formed it’s own 501c3 non-profit organization. The HDID functions in accordance with the Neighborhood Improvement District Act, Act 130 of 2000. Today, the HDID continues to provided clean, safe and beautiful services to the downtown business district as well as helping to promote the downtown business community through various marketing efforts, like a downtown message board, a weekly e-newsletter, and social media outlets, creation and organization of Harrisburg Restaurant Week, as well as being active on various committees working on projects to make the entire city a great place to live, work, shop, dine and play.
